In partnership with the Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) and Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, the Georgia Council on Substance Abuse provides peer support to individuals who have experienced an opioid overdose, or any incident related to substance use disorder in one of NGMC’s three campus emergency departments. The CARES program also offers peer support to parents with substance use disorders and families who have an infant admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit in a case involving prenatal substance exposure.
